Hi Ladies,
my Lo just turned 1yo and I have a freezer full of frozen milk that are way too old ( 6months to 9months) since I was meeting his daily needs I stopped freezing and just gave him fresh milk. I kept the frozen milk in case my supply dropped. well now that he is one I plan to stop pumping at work starting today and continue with my morning and late night pump for a while and then just nurse. The question is can I use the frozen milk to cook his food? I hate to waste it. what do you think? will it be beneficial to him? Also my Lo is not a big solid eater that is why I am planing to nurse past my initial goal which was a year. how can I encourage him to eat more solids? he is 20.5 lbs and 30 1/2 inches tall. which is good for now but can I still meet his calorie needs with mostly breast milk? your advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

What type of freezer do you have?  If you have a deep freezer, your milk should be good up to a year.  What I did, after I quit pumping at a year, is use thawed milk (1-2 bags/day) for DD at daycare.  Even if you don't have a deep freezer, your milk may still be ok ... if it doesn't smell or taste bad, you're probably ok.

My DD was also pretty slow to pick up solids.  She nursed a LOT a year, and even up to 2 years.  Breastmilk is a pretty complete food, and some babies have been known to be on just breastmilk to 2 or 2.5 (due to medical issues, such as allergies).  Obviously it'll be easier on you if he starts to take some solids, but I think you'll be much less frustrated if you let him increase solids at his own pace.  Keep offering a variety of foods, and let him set the pace.

Thank you spencer for your response. I am using the double door freezer and I only use it to store milk. I did open a bag yesterday and it smelled fine. Right now I am pumping at 4:00am and @ 9:00pm I am getting about 24 oz. I breast feed him at 7:00am and then when I pick him up at 6:30pm, then it is bath time I offer him solid which he never tries. at 7:30 he bf to sleep for about 20 minutes( my favorite time of the the day:) ). bf again at mid night and he sleeps untill 7:00am.  My goal is to stop the 4:00am pump next. do you think I will still be able to maintain my supply?

Than you for all your help

If he's 1, then you should be ok to drop a pump.  Most moms BFing toddlers are able to continue BFing even w/o pumping.  I don't blame you for giving up a 4 am pump!!

Since you have the freezer supply, I'd start using that during the day.
