Hi all!

I received a wonderful early gift from my husband, a gift card to a local craft store. I have always wanted to learn to cross stitch and now I am ready to get my feet wet!

I wondered what your recommendations are for a newbie in getting started.

Thanks and I can't wait to get to know everyone on the board. I have so much to learn.

Happy Holidays!!

Jean

Congratulations and well done to your husband!

Start with something small --- it helps to see something completed to encourage you to go on.

And pick a pattern you LIKE --- no point in stitching Winnie the Pooh if you HATE Winnie the Pooh!

And try to find something with a smaller count to start with (like 14 count or 12 count farbic --- the larger counts like 16 or 18 can be hard on the eyes).

Kits are the easiest things to begin with --- they usually come with everything you will need (even instructions) except a hoop or a frame (and if it's a samll kit, you won't need one of those yet).

Look for Aida cloth (it's easier to learn on) in a light color (stitching on dark colors is ALSO hard on the eyes)...

And when you get your stuff together, come abck and ask away if you have any questions. We willg et you hooked, I promise! LOL
