Ok my dd has the strictest teacher in the school and just about every parents is struggling with this. I am ok with that she can be strict because I think my dd could use some pushing since she just does what she has to to get by.

It seems as thou there is no communication between the parent and the teacher. Us parents are getting information from 6 year olds and that just can't continue because of course the stories don't match up from parent to parent.

I just want to feel out a few things to see if they are common for this age or any age. Homework will get sent home because the teacher is not happy with penmenship. I can understand if it is to messy you can't read it but to fix 1 or 2 letters because they are crooked.

For grades she puts things like 0+ VG- and I don't really know what this means and what is bad and needs more attention. I can guess what they mean but I don't want to assume.

If the kids are working on a class project and they don't finish they get benched for recesses until it is finished. My dd was just benched for 3 days for this. So if she is goofing off in class and not getting her work done then I need to know. She tells me lots of kids are benched. If that is the case then maybe there is not enough time in class to finish things but of course I am only getting info from my kid. Also if what they are working on is not neat enough they have to start over and this will result in being benched. She will not let them bring this work home to be finished.

These are just the things that I have written down for now to bring up to the teacher. Just wanted to throw it out to some nuetral peeps.

TIA!

Wow, I have to say that this seems over the top.  Elise will bring home papers with PF for please fix or please finish, and the teacher will correct letters that are wrong by writing them correctly over top of what Elise has written.  She uses losing a recess as a displinary tactic, but not for not finishing work.  That seems like it would encourage sloppy work, since the kids would be rushing to finish so they can go out to recess.  Sounds like you really need to have a sit down with this teacher!

The O would stand for outstanding and VG for very good.

I agree you need to sit down with the teacher. The kids should be able to take the work home that needs to be finished instead of losing recess. If there are that many kids not getting their work done, then more time is needed for those subjects and not just recess time.

Good luck! Lori

I can understand want the kids to do it neatly and right but this is over the top...making them miss recess for small mistakes like that...Ryans teacher corrects wrong leeters and he almost always finishes in class but some times brings home a please fix or finish! She encourages them to do their best work but never makes them start over...I don't think anyone in his class has missed recess for this!

I hope you have a conference coming up soon...I would be asking the teacher to keep you and the other parents better informed about things and wow that is a long list you have for that conference...I hope it goes well and thing changed!

Can you email her? I am in constant contacted with Ryan's 1st grade teacher...she will send one out to all parents every friday with reminders of up coming envents and such! Plus if I have an issue I can email her and she gets back to me before the day is over! Just an idea, if you can email her your concerns I would!
