There are schools closed for illness all around me.  I think it's just a matter of time before my school gets closed.  Hopefully not before our Octoberfest celebration on Friday that we're so looking forward to.  I can't believe it's gotten so bad this early.  I sent a letter to our principal today begging administration to give parents more than a posting on the TV an hour before the bus is supposed to show up if they do decide to close.  My closest babysitter is an hour and a half away.  This is really hard on parents who work.  What's it going to be like in December... January?

that is good you sent a letter.... that sucks the way they alert parents....

so far no school closures here. *knocking on wood* but my son, who is in middle school, says that a lot of his classes are super empty...the teachers have even commented on it. We might be heading into the next round of flu's....ugh!! my ds was spared the last round of flu's..... I pray he is spared this time around....... and like you said....I don't even want to know what Dec/Jan will look like....:-(

My physician told me that the H1N1 virus is striking earlier than the typical seasonal flu viruses. That's most likely what is causing the closures at this time. The typical seasonal viruses tend to be heaviest in December, January, etc.....That's why people get vaccinated in October....to prepare in advance for the onslaught. Unfortunately, the H1N1 vac didn't make it out in time to prepare people to be immune. He doesn't expect the seasonal virus to be any more prevalent that past years (the one people have been able to be vaccinated for already.)

I'm glad you sent a letter, there have been no signs of any closures here in AL though.  The schools really should let parents know sooner than the day of school.

Chances are the 'worst of the worst' will be over by Winter.

I would home they would contact you all through a phone tree of sorts to tell you what is going on. Trust me by Dec. and Jan you all will have been through it so you won't have to worry about school closing since most of the kids will have already had it.

I just got the girls their flu shot yesterday I need them to hold out a few more weeks so it's in full effect. H1N1 are not in yet so I hope to get them that as well.
