How much did it cost for you to get it placed? I just found out my insurance won't cover any implanted form of birth control. I have no desire for more children at this time and hate trying to remember to take a pill each day esp. as I'm breastfeeding and the mini-pill is not as effective as the regular one and I am so fertile. I was told it could cost me upto a $1,000 or close to it to have it placed. Is it worth that much?
My insurance covered mine, but I saw the doctor bill and it was $903. Pretty expensive, but if you average the cost over 5 years its about $15 a month.
Mine was $800 for the IUD, plus the cost of the OB visit...which was $250. My insurance covered the IUD, but my Dr's office didn't accept my insurance for the implantation...and then changed their mind at the last second and said they would. We were planning on saving the money and paying out of pocket...our reasoning, we can't afford another child rignt now...it would ruin us financailly if I even survived another pregnancy so soon (I get PIH and pre-eclempsia w/ every pregnancy). IMO it's worth it. GL!
I am facing the same dilemma. I called to set up my appointment and found out my insurance doesn't cover it either. The quote from my midwife was $600-800 for the Mirena. I was going to call and see if it's cheaper at a clinic, but over five years the monthly cost is still less than the pill... which my insurance doesn't cover either.
