Joshua's doctor wanted him to start Zantac 1.5 ml twice a day yesterday. I went to the pharmacy last night to pick it up and his insurance denied it stating that for his age the maximum allowed is 0.4 ml a day. What is your LO's dosage? I was just going to pay the $90 instead of using the insurance but the pharmacist felt that we should contact the doctor and question the strength since there was such a difference.

Brennan was just prescribed this too and I am looking at the Docs script and it looks like it is .5 ml 3 times a day. Call me a bad mom - but I remember her saying three times a day, but I don't remember if she said the amount! Once I get it filled if it is any different I will let you know.

Ours is .6 ml 2 times a day. However, this was prescribed a month ago and in the last few days her AR has been pretty bad. I think we need an increase in dosage based on her weight.

Just a hint....DD's pediatrician told us exactly what he was writing down in case the pharmacy wouldn't accept the order. .6 ml is VERY different that 6 ml. Based on what I am reading from others, 1.5 ml does seem like an awfully high dosage for his age/weight. I would call back to the dr. and see if he could rewrite the script for a lesser dosage. Not to mention, I can't imagine an infant taking 1.5 ml's. It's hard enough to get the .6 ml's down!

My little one started out on Zantac .5 three times a day and is now at .8 three times a day due to her weight (10.5 lbs)  She has continued to gain weight and although she still empties the contents of her stomach on me at least once per day, her doctor says we do not have to take any further actions (and classifies her as a 'happy spitter') due it not being projectile vomit any more, she doesn't seem worried or uncomfortable from it and she wants to eat whereas before it was a chore to get 1 oz. in her.

As of now, she is 6 wks old and has 3 oz of formula with 5 teaspoons of Beechnut rice cereal to weigh it down...then we have to hold her upright for 30 minutes (which she has gotten used to and can no longer be put down, EVER!)

Please keep us updated on your reflux baby and mommies, please share your stories...it is always comforting to know you are not the only momma going through things...

Have a wonderful day!
