Hi Ladies,

Are y'all sterilizing your pump parts after each use?  I have been, but it is a huge PIA and I wonder if once a day is enough.  I have a Medela PIS if that matters.  I did buy the sterilizing bags, but that still takes time.

Wondering if I can cut back to once a day?

I am not boiling after every use at all! I also have the Medela PIS and in the book it advised to boil beofre first use and then wash with hot soapy water thereafter - so I have just been washin gmy parts that touch breast milk after each use. I figure I will boil every now and then to get a good cleaning but that is my approach!

From what I have gathered from the info I have seen... You need to sterilize it prior to first use, then soap and hot water after that. Running it through the dishwasher periodically is a good idea, too. You can get a special dishwasher basket at Target or similar places for nipples and small items on top and larger pieces in the bottom part. I love mine! I just keep it in the dishwasher all the time so there's always room for it on the top shelf. Every time I run it, I just throw in any bottle/pump parts that are dirty at that time.

Best Wishes!!

I sterilized around once a week when I was pumping for 7 weeks. I would wash with hot soapy water after each use. I think I would have gone insane trying to boil each time.

I run mine through the dishwasher every night-and if I pump more than once a day, I just rinse them off with hot water...I was sterilizing every time and then I got so sick of it!
