Please help...

My dd is colicky. So as of yesterday I stopped eating/drinking any cows milk. I got really strict and wont even eat my favorite granola bars that have a little milk in them. I think it was all giving my dd gas. She would look really uncomfortable and arch her back or curl her knees and was fussy even when nursing. She would then only sleep while on her tummy on my chest. Well, since stopping the dairy she slowly became less gassy as the day went on and is doing well tonight bu here is my problem...

She was screaming like a banchi (sp?) last night before bed... I mean shrieking. It wasn't like she was gassy... she just screamed and my dh and I could do nothing to console her. I mean NOTHING. Eventually she stopped but I don't feel like we had anything to do with it... I think she wore herself out... her throat was so hoarse when she screamed. She is 4 weeks old (and one day..today). My husband thinks we should just leave her alone to cry in her crib when she gets like that but I cant... I feel like that's mean and it makes me cry to see her this way.

I talked to a nurse on the phone about her crying and the nurse just said some babies are just fussy. But I am afraid there could be something more  since it did not seem like gas anymore.

I just don't feel like a baby should scream that hard unless something is seriously wrong... but I am a new mom so I have no idea.

Please help... thanks!

Leah did that too and I took her to her pediatrician.  We think she has reflux.  I too cut out dairy, which I think is not the problem.  The biggest thing I have found that helps her, especially trying to get her to sleep, is swaddling her with her arms tight against her sides and really elevating the head of her bed to about a 45-degree angle.  I have found that the thermal receiving blankets swaddle best because they stretch and you can get them more snug than the flannel.  I would recommend taking your baby to the pediatrian just to make sure everything is okay and put your mind at ease.  My Leah is fussy and so was my first DD.  Some babies are just that way, but I knew in the beginning it was more of a "pain" fussy than just being fussy.  She is on Zantac now and that helps her not seem to be in such pain, but she is still fussy unless I'm holding her.  That is about the only thing that makes her not fussy.

Thanks!

I am going to take her in for acid reflux. I called the nurse suggesting that and she blew me off. So I am going to call and just request an appointment instead of trying to talk about what could be wrong... then I'll ask my Dr. about it and not the nurse. That nurse makes me so mad. She doesn't have to hear my little girl scream in pain so she says some babies are just fussy.

I had other people suggest it could be reflux as well.. I am now convinced.

Thanks again!
