What's your most vivid political memory? Can be from your childhood, could be recent...

I remember being outside, shooting hoops, when a neighbor ran outside and yelled, "the President's been shot!" I ran inside, told my mom. Her face was shock and terror and she ran to the tv and turned it on. Reagan had been shot. Mom had been ironing, so I remember watching the old black and white TV in the office and standing next to the ironing board, watching coverage.

Wow. More vivid than I thought. I was 7-ish.

LOL at myself...when you said "the president" has been shot...I immediately thought of JFK.   You, my dear, are in the next generation! LOL

For me...I was just becoming aware of the "Presidency of the United States".  I was in the 2nd grade.  If that seems late, remember...this was in the late 1950's and our President didn't think he was a Hollywood celebrity nor did we have more than 3 networks.

It was during the Kennedy/Nixon campaign.   I saw a film (didn't have video in those days) on our 15" black and white tv.   It was on a newscast and they were talking about the young Senator from Massachusetts and the fact that he was Catholic, had a brand new baby boy (John Jr.).   The part that caught my attention was that he had a new baby.   (I loved babies!)

That was the first presidential candidate that I was old enough to notice.   And it's funny I noticed at all...except my parents kept talking about how young he was...which was funny because he was older than my mom!

When I was in high school, I was in the Foley's All-Star Band. We had the opportunity to play at the 1992 Republican Gala in Houston. I was positioned right in front of Barbara Bush and George wasn't that far away. I felt so honored to play for the President. That is a memory that will stay with me forever.
