I've been having a little trouble with my right breast feeling like it's really engourged.  I don't think it's masitis, I'm not running a fever, no streaking and it's not hard.  It hurts, but not so bad I can't function or feed from that side.  Any ideas what it could be and what I can do to get the pain to go away.

I just got over mastitis.  It started out as a sore boob and then I guess the infection set in.  Once I had a 102 fever I knew it was mastitis.  I felt awful.  It sounds like you just have a clogged duct now, but that makes you high risk for mastitis.  Massage the lump and nurse frequently on that side!

Also, when you are nursing, point baby's nose toward the hard spot on your breast. That should help relieve the clogged duct, in addition to massage and warm compresses.

I breastfeed my first son for 2 yrs and now i'm working on my second. You should take a warm shower. Let the warm water run on your breast and use a thick hair comb to "comb" out the breast. Comb in a downward motion. This helps the clogged milk to soften up and come out when you feed. If the comb is to rough you could put a washcloth on the breast then comb it. Good luck!!
