My youngest son has autism, and one-on-one time with him is so important, but it's hard to find a game that's great just for two players and isn't a forever game like chess can be. He's had a rough time since major dental work last week and having a lot of tantrums and fits. He was bugging me for Stratego, so I ran out and grabbed it for him as a surprise. He was so excited -- until he realized that the box was different from his memory and the game was thrown across the room. But, an hour later, after getting him calmed down and happy, we sat down to play. Success! He showed me the rules, had a great strategy, and he beat me!
It took almost an hour to play, and while his attention span was really wearing thin, the one-on-one time paid off. He was much better the rest of the evening, and I was able to step away and make dinner. That doesn't happen a lot. ;)
I'm thinking a game right after school today will make for another good night!
