Hi!

My name is Lisa (33) and I'm married to Bob (33).  We have a DS (6) who is just entering first grade and a DD (3) who is just delightful.   Right now, we love to play games, but we don't necessarily have a FGN each week.  MY DH and I are both middle school teachers in very low income areas as well.  It would be great to put togeter some sort of club together at school, too, to promote all of the wonderful skills that can be practiced on FGN.

So, I guess I'm just looking for some ideas on how to host great FGN and just for some new friends, too!

Lisa

Welcome to the board, Lisa!

I have a DS in first grade and a 3yo DD, too.  ;)

That is a fantastic idea!  I might have to use that myself for DS's school.  What are some of your family's favorite games to play?  I need some ideas.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

So sorry, didn't realize that anyone had replied!  (I changed my settings to get emailed...)

We love anything with action, really.   Right now our big games are Hi Ho Cherry Oh, Cranium Hullabaloo, and Candyland.  My DS is getting into Sorry and Uno, too.  We also just make up games with dice or modify older games so that they are fast paced and kid-oriented.

I asked my principal about FGN at school.  She is worried about gang action and gambling. *sigh*  I guess I'll have to just work out a way to do it in my classes.

Thanks so much for responding.  Its good to see other like-minded people out there!

Lisa

Cranium Hullabaloo is so much fun.

That is unfortunate about your school not supporting having games. I am assuming is a high school since they are worried about gambling???.  My DS elementary school is going to start board games suring lunch time. They were asking for some volunteer parents to come every so often to help. I thought board games during lunch is such a fantastic idea. I know a lot of the older kids are really looking forward to it.  They also have a chess club. I know DS already told me he would be joining that club.
