Set up a recycle station in your kitchen, utility room or garage and a) crush aluminum cans, b) bag plastic and glass containers, c) stack newspaper and when they reach a critical mass --- recycle them. Saves on raw materials becasue ALL of these can be reused...

We did this by putting a can crushed by the bak door and a waste can under it. Aluminum cans get crushed right away after rinsing. Two stackable bins nearby hold plastic (rinsed), glass (rinsed) and the stacked newspaper. All this costs us is what the two bins, the waste can and the crusher cost (we recycle garden-weight plastic bags to transport them to the recycle center but, if your waste pick-up has recycle days, you don't even need to use these!)...

Instead of using disposable razors, get one you can just put new blades into.

FREE/CHEAP - Make at least one main meal a week meatless.  Meat, especially beef, is expensive and not very enviro-friendly.

Bring your own containers to the grocery store. Many will put your meat or cheese right into them instead of using plastic.

Buy rice, grains, etc. in bulk at your local grocery store. Most health food stores, Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage offer this now. Even our local King Soopers store now has many items in bulk. Even peanut butter!!
