Okay, so this isn't meant to be a debate, so if you are against the CIO method, just skip over this post.. :)

My question is, does anyone know when it's okay to let them cry it out? My DD is such a snuggler, she seems to want to just snuggle to go to sleep, instead of falling asleep on her own. It's been such a long time since I've had such a little one in the house (9 years!), that I've forgotten when we did the CIO thing (which worked wonders for my now 9 year old).

Thanks for your input!

Holly,

We did and do CIO with my 15month old son-and will with Michael too. He is almost 7 weeks old now so we're really just now starting it with him. (I just don't have the heart to do it when they're younger than this)

We do CIO at nap/bed time basically, when we know he's fed, burped and changed. He is usually okay if we lay him down with his pacifier, but if it falls out of his mouth-get ready for the screaming! lol

Our 15mo old does really well with it too. He is usually asleep within minutes of being put in his crib at night. We also put him in his crib if he is being naughty (we went through a short biting phase). We let him CIO then take him back out, if he doesn't fall asleep.

HTH

We aren't going to use the CIO method but this might help you. We had problems putting our 6 week old down to sleep at night, she's usually wide awake when we hope to go to sleep. We have the tiny love mobile (i researched it while i was pregnant and found it was the best rated one w/ consumer reports) she stares at it for up to a half hour (usually less) and then falls asleep on her own, no crying. We also have the rainforest soother and alternate between that and the mobile (so she won't get tired of them too quickly) and both work well, the mobile works better though.

I think part of her crying was boredom..she's so used to seeing us and being entertained by us that once we put in the crib where nothing was happening she hated it. Since we started using the two things i mentioned above it's been almost like heaven :)

hope this helps.

You and I are in the same boat! I have a 9 year old son and a seven year old daughter. I did cry it out with both of them and they're both healthy, happy, great sleepers (gasp). I will definitely do CIO w/ this one but she's only 9 weeks old. I've heard that waiting until they're 4 months old is kinda the right time but I really want to do it now. However, I'm gonna wait being that we have 3 trips we're taking in the next 6 weeks so why go through it all and then have to do it again when we get back. That said, my baby does SUPER well at night (I co-sleep...another gasp) but has decided in the last three days that naps she can do w/o. Well, well, well, my dear baby...think again. Today, I've resigned myself that she and I are "practicing" a new way to nap. Since she won't do the swing, car seat, lap anymore...bed it is. So ALL DAY LONG I've been going upstairs every time I see her yawn or rub her eyes and rock her for a sec then lay her down. No luck yet but I'm determined. I can hear her now...I think she's poopin' but she's in her bed listening to the mobile. When she cries, I'll go get her and we'll do it again - until she falls asleep. Which she will at some point...maybe today, maybe next week. But this is my new plan. Good luck to you and I can't wait to see what everyone else says.
