That's a great question....Working full-time and being a wife and mom definitely makes it hard to find balance in life....it was much easier when we lived in an apartment too, b/c now we have to juggle house things as well...

DH and I definitely have some "defined" roles---he does most of the "outdoor" work and I do more of the "indoor" work so to speak.  It's just what works for us.  Neither of us really complains about, it's just what we do.  I definitely think that if I was a SAHM, I would do a lot more of the outdoor stuff at home as well, but I guess I can't do everything (right?)

I do feel that the one thing in my life that suffers is IRL friendships which is why iVillage has become very important to me.  It's hard to want to go out with friends at nite when I'm dead tired by the time I put my 3yo to bed!

I am very blessed to have a DH who is very helpful around the house. I currently am the bread winner while DH goes to college and works a small PT job. DH constantly jumps in and helps around the house with everything from dishes to helping out with meals. I think that is very important in our balance. He doesn't expect me to work all night then come home and take care of everything.

With working nights right now we have taken extra steps to try and plan out our times at home. I have planned out dinners, which we may not always get to eat together, but we atleast we get something home cooked instead of always going out. Along those lines we try and plan out who will clean what and if something needs fixed who is working on it.

I know that once our little boy comes being able to tag team items the way we have instead of having the more normal male and female rolls will help us balance the extra blessing in our family.

I agree with the ivillage and IRL friends Niccole. Im a stay home mom and I take care of the house (inside) and all of the bills, shopping, laundry, animals etc. Just because Im home does not mean I have more time, right now my DS is playing with his cars, i have laundry going etc. I m in the kitchen posting from the counter as I get lunch ready. You just have to find a system that works for you and your situation.
