My daughter is 2 weeks old, and I've noticed that pretty much every time she's awake- she has to be eating, otherwise she cries. As soon as she eats, she goes to sleep. She doesn't really have periods when she's awake where she's just content and quiet. Is this normal?
Yep. Every baby is different, as I am learning. My DS #1 was very high maintenance and rarely slept, but DS #2 is a whole different story. If he's up, he's BFing. Then he drifts off to sleep after pooping. It is niiicccee!!!
I agree with pp-every baby is different. My first was much more easy going than this new one. Sarah is very needy-really wants to be held all the time, and is very rarely happy doing anything else. I think that once they are a little older, they will be more content to watch whats going on, but right now, unless its right in front of their face, they can't really see it, and are easily bored, and alot of what they want is based on touch. Or at least thats what I feel is going on with my LO.
It is reassuring to hear that it doesn't sound totally abnormal. It just makes me concerned, because when she cries, NOTHING besides nursing consoles her. I hope it is just a phase because she is so little still.
the first month all they do is eat, sleep and pee/poop. there's really not much quiet awake time for them at that stage. at around 4 weeks you'll notice a difference and then even more so by 6 weeks. HTH!
