Toronto Moms:Sinai, Women's or St Mike?
Hi and congrats on the babies!
I am on the April 2009 EC... had my first in January 2007. I was at Mount Sinai for that birth. All went ok (not great) and generally found the wait times at Sinai during the pregnancy very long, and the attentiveness during labour not great. Doctors were busy, and I had so-so nurses (I was there for a 2 day induction, so I got a pretty good feel for the entire spectrum. I went through 4 nursing shifts!!). My experience on the maternity floor was much better, except no private room for first 2 nights.
I will need to chose hospitals for this pregnancy soon, and am wondering which to chose... any advice?
Here's what I would like:
- good obstetrician (not too picky here, I am not high risk, and they don't deliver your baby unless by coincidence)
- appointments during the pregnancy to be on time, or close...
- private room for post delivery (it's going to be another c-section)
- good nurses pre and post who will help.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Hi there, I had both my son's at Mount Sinai :), my second just 5 weeks ago. I am so surprised by your experience. I loved giving birth there. Sometimes the waits are longer because Mounta Sinai is one of the best hospitals in Canada and actually in the world as well, so a lot of people choose it. I usually made my appointments for first thing in the morning and never waited more then 10 mins. Also the hospital is right accross the street from sick kids and if anything goes wrong they have an emergency underground tunel that leads right to sick kids. Doctors at mount sinai saved my ability to have kids, i had post partum hemmorage both times and there was talk of removing my uterus if the bleeding didnt stop, my docs were amazing and stop the bleeding and saved my uterus. I would not have kids anywhere else. As for private room, I never had a problem, it was available when i was there, but that could be because of my preeclamsia and I needed oiece and quet, so i was always in the private room. from my friends that had kids at both places a lot preffered Mount sinai. Goodluck with your decision.

Thanks for the feedback. The waits are doctor dependent, mine was Sermer. Nice enough guy, but insanely busy. He was three hours late for my 6 wk post partum appt, can you imagine keeping a newborn happy for three hours?? And then the nurse asked me two questions, never looked at me and I was done.
Mind sharing which doc you had? I've been through the rate my doc results tonight but people don't seem to use the service in toronto (docs are not as frequently rated). I also saw Kingdom once at Sinai and he seemed nice. Also rated well by many.

This time is was Dr. Barkin, he is great. Dr, Kingdom delivered my first son :), I had Dr. Murphy, Dr. Kingdom was in her group of doctors, so I met him too and when i was induced he was the doctor on call, so he delivered my son. This time Dr. Murphy has moved on to research within high risk pregnancies and no longer does deliveries, so I went to Dr. Barkin because I liked him when he did my ectopic surgery 5 yrs ago, but when i tried to go to him with my first son's pregnancy he was allready all booked up and wasn't accepting new patients, I waited till i was 13 weeks along to make an appointment, because my previous pregnancies were not succesful and i wasn't positive that my pregnancy would stick (he is am almost 3 yr old today :)). This time I made sure to make my first appointment as soon as I got my BFP. Dr. Barkin has restored my fertility, prior we were ttc for almost 6 yrs, went through fertility treatments (we were unexplained) and then when I had an ectopic, he did my surgery and after surgery he said that I will get pregnant asap because when he did my surgery everything looked great and he saw no reason why we were not getting pregnant, I though he was trying to cheer me up, since i saw no way that I can get pregnant with one tube when I couldn't with two and I got pregnant the 2 cycle after having my ectopic and surgery, we were not allowed to try the first month, so technically I got pregnant the first month we were trying after ectopic and with my second son, who i just had in July i got pregnant the first cycle we decided to ttc again. So in my world Dr. Barkin is god :), I also find him very knowledgeable and he is also nice and took his time to address any concerns I had during my pregnancy. If you want I can give you his contact, feel free to email me at kiev1500@hotmail.com
