I had a breast reduction exactly one year ago and my June baby 5 weeks ago (smile). All the lactation consultants told me that I may not be able to nurse bc of inflammation in my ducts of my nipples. They were oh so right (frown). The problem is that my glands are still making milk bc I have gone up at least a half cup size to one whole size. And when I pinched my nipple one drop of milk came out (this happened twice) I thought the milk worked on supply and demand. If there is no demand bc I am not nursing how long will my breasts keep making milk? And how can I speed up the process of my milk drying up? Also, my OB prescribed an estrogen free pill bc she thought I could nurse, so that is not gonna help and I only been taking the pill for 4 days so I know that is not why my breasts are enlarged.
HELP!!!!

I am in a similar situation!  I had my reduction Dec 1995 and have since had 3 babies.  I got a little more milk with each one but was never able to exclusively bf.  I pumped with my 1st and 3rd (born June 19th) because neither one would latch.  My 2nd nursed and bottle fed.

I just stopped pumping 3 days ago and my boobs are soooooo sore.  My little guy started latching about a week ago but my milk was already almost dried out.  I still have him nurse a couple times a day when he is fuss and it's not time to eat.  I figure that even if he gets a 1/2 ounce its good for him and it helps relieve the pain for me.  I don't know how much longer it will last  - my breasts no longer engorge even though they are sore - weird, huh?

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but at least you know you are not alone!  :0)
