okay, Joseph will be 8 weeks old tomorrow.  He has had stomach issues since the beginning.  Reflux, colic, never seems to be comfortable.  I'm nursing him, we were adding formula to the breast milk to thicken it up and that seemed to make the stomach issues worse, so now we're adding rice.  We've tried everything short of me cutting dairy out of my diet.

Now I'm freaking out that he's almost 8 weeks old, rarely smiles, doesn't smile in response to your smile, and rarely looks at us unless it's out of the corner of his eye.  When he looks at us straight on, it's not for very long, he never studies your face like I hear some babies doing.  He just never seems happy, but with all the stomach problems, maybe he has nothing to be happy about??

Please, someone tell me that it's not a big deal that he's not smiling or looking at us.  Someone tell me they have a 8 week old that's not smiling in response to a smile or studying their face.

I'm desperate here.

Stacie

I as looking through our EC posts and saw yours... We're all over at the playgroup now.  Did you get a chance to post this over there and see if anyone had an answer for you?

I don't know about whether this is a big deal or not.  I know all babies develop at their own pace.  Still, if it concerns you, call the pediatrician and ask.  They might have him in a little earlier than usual to check on his developement and stuff.  ((hugs)) this mom thing is hard, isn't it?
