I just read this yesterday - and was confused and alarmed. What could possibly be the point of publishing online the details of women's abortions? The eight pieces of info that will be online: date of abortion, county performed in, mother's age, mother's marital status, mother's race, mother's education level, mother's state or country of residence, total number of mother's previous pregnancies. I suppose I can see the health department keeping stats - to track trends etc. - but is there really a need for the public to see this?

I guess I just can't see any reason for this info to be available to the public and it seems that in smaller communities the mother's identity might be guessed from this information. True, her name won't be posted but it still seems like a way to intimidate women to keep them from having an abortion.

Thoughts?

Sounds like complete intimidation and also really playing with a grey area regarding patient confidentiality. I know they aren't listing their names, but like you said in smaller communities they could be guessed.

Frankly, this is disgusting!

You know what kept jumping out at me as I read your post?

Cons want to make things PUBLIC, PUBLIC, PUBLIC when it comes to what medical procedures some women get... BUT they don't want a PUBLIC option because they don't want "the government" involved in their health care and health care decisions, right?

It's enough to want to go beat your head against a wall - but then you might have to go to the ER and who wants to have to pay that co-pay, co-insurance AND deductible - uuuuuuugggggggggggghhhhhhhh!!!

(Health care and surrounding issues in this country are DEPRESSING!!)
