my doctor said I could give my son 1oz of water MIXED with 1 oz of prune juice ( to help him poo) but i heard giving straight water to a baby can be harmful...i heard it can delute a chemical in your brain that can cause harm to the baby when deluted. I have heard this for a long time but you can ask your doctor about it...

My mother in law said she gave regular milk to her babies (from the carton)....it does not have all the nutrients a baby needs..they are finding out much more now these days that our mothers just do not know nor did the Doctors back then....

I know our parents mean well and maybe we turned out okay but I recommend asking your doctor before just taking your mom's advice :)

They do not need it- esp if you are BF- if they are peeing a few times a day they def don't need.

However, with that said, my DD has a stuffy nose and my pedi said I could give her some water in a bottle a couple times a day if i wanted - that it would help break up the mucus for her.

So I guess the answer is you don't need to but you could if you feel you want to.
