I just wanted to get your opinion on a matter...

I have several friend who are expecting their 3 and for some 4th child. Is it customary to have a baby shower each child?

Well.... I was told that I was wrong for giving a friend a shower for her second baby. :( I personally think it's right to celebrate every birth! But, what was suggested to me was maybe give her a little party after the birth so everybody can meet the baby. Of course, if it's been 10 years between babies or she's had all girls and is now expecting a boy or vice versa, you can always change the rules that others seem to set. ;-)

If you want to go ahead with the shower, maybe you could point out that she already has a crib, stroller, appropriate car seat or whatever? Or since it's a bunch of friends, do they have a bunch of friends in common where you could have one party for all of them at the same time? I just keep thinking that if my friends want to buy new clothes for my little one, I'd love to have them clean and ready for the arrival. :)

Let us know!! :)

hello!! so youre really only "supposed" to have a shower with your first child. after that, youre on your own-lol. but with my sisters in law, ive always bought them a few gifts for their newborns. and after i had my 2nd, some people gave me stuff-my sil bought a swing and a bouncy seat. if i have another baby-im going to have to have something cuz i have nothing left from my 2 kids, except some clothes. but a crib, stroller, bassinet, play pen, etc-i need it all. i think if you want to get them a lil something for their newborns, then you can and if you/they want another shower, then by all means, do what you want-you dont have to follow the trend. but traditionally-its only baby #1 that gets the benefit of a shower. take care!!

There are a couple stipulations I've frequently heard of, for showers for subsequent babies to be considered "okay". If there are more than 5-6 years between children (well past the timeframe where you'd keep your baby stuff), then a shower is okay. If baby #1 is a boy and baby #2 is a girl, it's okay.

Another thing to keep in mind for subsequent babies is a "Meet the Baby" party. It's done sometime after the baby is born, generally within the first month. It's pretty much a baby shower, but with the added benefit of knowing with 100% certainty that the baby is a boy or girl. :P

The official "rule" on Subsequent baby showers is:

More than 5yrs between the kids. (like Amy said)

Baby is a different sex (also Amy ;-) )

OR

the people from the first shower won't be at this shower.

Personally I think all babies deserve a celebration, maybe a mom of 4 won't need some things but a small party and gift is always nice. :-)
