I'm wondering if anyone else thinks this is a bit odd...or if it's just me.

SO I'm at church and this lady, who is a mom of one of the other kids in the youth group, hands me an invitation to her sons bday party.

It's a pot luck, at the church and something about playing xbox???

Is this the new trend, or maybe the recession kicking in?? It just seems like she's asking others to provide her sons party. (or maybe I'm just cranky having missed that hour of sleep last night)

hello!! well, ive never been invited to a potluck birthday party, but i dont think its a bad idea. i think of it this way-think of the different dishes /goodies that will be brought. maybe shes doing it as more of a church function than a traditional bday party. and maybe she figures this way, if everyone who comes brings something, then there will be enough food without her being stuck with leftovers, kwim?? it IS different, but i dont think its a bad idea...

It sounds a bit odd to me, too.  But, now that I think about it, it would be a great idea for my ds! Everybody in the family is picky or allergic about different foods - except him, it would be a great chance for him to get different foods to try. Of course, then you'd run into problems of inviting kids who do have allergies and you might have to get specific about what pot luck dish people could bring? I can see all sorts of problems rising from that party.

I hope it works out for them! Are you back to getting regular sleep?

Wendy: Thanks for the viewpoint. I think I would have been ok with it had they not added the little "gift clause" at the end about his favorite store and he likes going to the movies with friends. Bringing food and presents and at another location seems too much like "you throw my kid a bday party and I'll make sure he's there".

As for the sleep....I think that being under so much stress was actaully keeping me from being sick. I know it's usually just the opposite, but now as I'm getting things off my plate I'm feeling more and more like "crud". I've only got a few more pages to write of my thesis (mainly the conclusion) I've dealt with loosing my grandma and having to be out of state for work, getting caught up on paperwork...now we're on spring break and this afternoon I've felt like yucksville. I've slept most of the day away and i'm suppose to be at Karate in a half hour but I think i may be missing it today. Just my luck.

I agree. I hope the party is not setting a new trend!

I can understand being too busy to get sick and then it finally catching up with you. I hope you're feeling better soon. I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. :(

I hate missing my taekwondo classes. I hope you're back on your feet soon!!
