when are you going to have mm/sh start preschool, or have they already? awhile ago someone from mm board gave a few great preschool sites, and i lost them...does anyone still have them? or does anyone have any info.

my mom said i need to get looking and getting him in somewhere, i dont know where to start, i know i need to call, get prices, take tours, and observe but where do i look to find ratings lists or something online? Mom said kindergarten is 5yrs in the young class and 6 is the older kids in the class...What?? i thought they started at 6 and 7yo's were the older kids.

AHHHH...this is going too fast, i feel like i should start researching elementary schools in my area also!

what are you doing???

In Missouri (my state) you have to be 3 by Aug. 1st to start preschool at most schools (which corresponds with the 5 by Aug. 1st rule for kindergarten), so Henry will start preschool next Aug. when he's 3.5.  James, our oldest DS, has a late Aug. birthday so he was almost 4 when he started preschool at his current school, but we did find a program more like a Mom's Day Out program mostly for social development & to get used to the school environment when he was almost 3 (you only had to be 2.5 by Aug. 1st to join this class but he turned 3 a couple weeks after school started.)  With Henry having a Feb. birthday, it works out well that he'll be 3.5 when he starts preschool, 4.5 when he starts Pre-Kindergarten & 5.5 when he starts Kindergarten.  We're planning on enrolling him in our parish preschool (we're Catholic) since our oldest DS will be going to Kindergarten there next year too.  Right now, James goes to preschool at a neighboring parish school simply b/c last year, our parish didn't offer preschool.  Now that they do we look forward to having both boys at the same school next year.  It's much closer to our house too, which is nice.  If you're not in a parish or church, but are interested in using a religious or private preschool, I'd just check around your neighborhood & arrange to tour some preschools to see what fits for you & your child.  In our area, most preschools, at least religious ones, start registering new students around Jan-Feb. for the following school year.  HTH!

Thanks! that was alot of help. We are methodist so i will definitley be checking out our church's preschool, which is where DH went when he was little. I will also be checking out the one I went to when i was little. and there is one i have heard has a great program, but im not in love with that church, so we will see.

Now when the website lists prices and says "$78" Thats not each week is it?? Is that per month, or how long do you think that is that for?

I have Max in a parent's day out program 1x a week right now. He is at a neighborhood united methodist church. He will attend their preschool program starting next fall when he is 3.5 and that will be 3 half days a week.

I put him in PDO because he was having a lot of trouble not having me around and because I don't have a lot of friends with young children so I wanted to start getting him a little more socialized with children his own age. He has a lot of fun while he is there and it has been good for Max and good for me. It was very expensive, $68 a month and that is for every Thursday 9:30 - 2:30.

Hope that helps you some.

Liz:)

I wouldn't freak out yet, if I were you.  If I didn't have my situation, I would have waited until next fall to start her.  However...

I work full-time, so I need full-time care.  This fall, we planned on sending older DD to preschool with an extended day program and keep Mallory in her home daycare.  We had to change Mallory, too, so we sent her to Sydney's school.  I am very happy with it.  The preschool program is 8-12, then I pick them up at 3ish.  It is ridiculously expensive by us--we pay about $650/child.  Regular preschool (half day) runs about $250-350/mo.  Most people send their children to church preschools, and we also have a co-op program in our town.

As far as elementary schools, we "decided" on that when I was pregnant with Mallory.  We bought a house in a top 10 school district in our state, so we will obviously be sending them there.
