Anyone pumpkin carving with SB?  If so, how?  Are you having them draw, or pull out the guts?

I don't know what to do with her...

For the last few years ever since older ds' first halloween, I would carve the big pumpkins and get smaller pumpkins for the boys to color or paint on.  But I am the only one that enjoys the carving.  So this year we just colored and painted.  I think next year I will try carving and see if Carmine wants to help pull out the guts.  i kind of missed it this year.  We did ours on Wednesday since our trick or treat was last night.

We usually try to have the boys pull out the guts, but this is the first year that my older DS would do it! SB wanted nothing to do with it - he stood there and looked but didn't want to put his hand in. But SB did choose what shapes to use for eyes, nose, mouth, etc. It was fun!

Madelaine wouldn't touch the "guts" with her hands, but she walked around the house holding the pumpkin like it was her friend.  I carved it to look like the jack-o-lantern in the front of the haunted house decoration we had set up.

It was actually a LOT of fun to carve.

I also bought a pack of those battery operated tea lights to use instead of candles.  I put one in the haunted house and one in the pumpkin.  VERY spooky, and I didn't have to worry about SB and safety issues!  :)

Sounds like she had fun.

We didnt carve ours. Last year I let them paint the pumpkins - not faces, just pretty colors. This year I ordered jack-o-lantern stickers from oriental trading co. They have different pieces for eyes, nose, etc. They just had to pick out what they wanted and stick them in the right places. The girls could do it all by themselves, and the pumpkins look great.
