Do you all let your SF's watch Spongebob, Scooby Doo, and other such cartoons? I am beginning to wonder if some of Gavin's bad behavior isn't due to Spongebob and even Ni Hao Kailan.  He is afraid of Scooby, but he does watch Spongebob a lot and now I'm thinking I need to cut it out?

Also, do you let your SF watch the shows that YOU watch, like House or CSI or whatever you're into? The only show I like to watch is House, but I know sometimes there's language and I'm afraid to let Gav watch it.  I just wonder how ya'll find the time to watch tv if you don't let your kiddos watch too.  :) I guess some kids go to bed at a decent hour though...

Lastly, do you filter what kind of music your kid can listen to? Only kiddie music or do you let them listen to some rock/country or whatever you listen to.  Gavin has gotten into a bad habit of wanting to listen to "heavy metal" in the car.  Its really Shinedown and Seether, and I FF through any bad words, but is somewhat obsessed with listening to the same song over and over and gets mad if I listen to anything different or put in kid's music.  No big deal or am I warping his little brain?

No, we don't watch SpongeBob but Ryan knows who he is, thanks to my 5-year-old nephew, since they watch it at their house and when we fly up to visit and stay with them, well, what can ya do? ;) My nephew also likes Phineas and Ferb, which I also think is hysterical but Ryan doesn't watch. It can get a little violent, in my opinion, and he doesn't quite know what he's watching yet -- I feel it's more fast-paced than some of the kiddie shows that are more geared toward 3-year-olds.

Ryan watches a little TV in the morning while we're getting dressed, and a little in the evening while we're getting into PJs. It's typically Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, Kailan or Special Agent OSO, and then Dora and Diego are on at night, depending on when we get him into his PJs. In fact, there are only four channels I let him watch -- Nick Jr. (i.e. Blue's Clues), Disney, and the two PBS stations.

I don't think House (which I am crazy about too!) or CSI or any of those "adult" shows are appropriate for kids to watch. Sucks that House is on at 8 p.m. but that's what TiVos and VCRs are for! ;)

                  

                    

 

Our Gavin doesnt watch the shows we watch but we've never had to decide if he should be able to or not because he goes to bed before they even come on so its not an issue.   He does watch spongebob as of about 2 months ago and i was pretty shocked when i sat down and watched myself.  i dont think thats a good positive cartoon and im not sure why more parents dont complain about its content.  but either way i do let him watch it still on occassion and he also watches diego and dora or whatever else is on nickolodeon.  he is afraid of monsters and skeletons (haloween should be a blast right?) so he doesnt really get into scooby doo either.   im afraid of him having nightmares from stuff like that. 

i dont filter my music at all.  i realize that my choice in music is not good for little ears but i havent had any trouble with him saying bad words or calling people names or anything and as long as that is true i will prob keep things the way they are.  I can only take so much "apples and bananas" and "abcs".  :)   I dont think youre warping gavin!

Logan is never interested in the shows we watch.. and we usually wait to watch them until he goes to bed. Its not like we really get to pay attention to the TV when he's up anyways ;)

Logan did a SpongeBob stint... thanks to my BIL's house (babysitting).. but he lost interest in it. He watches a lot of shows on Noggin, Disney Channel and PBS. I don't see that it effects his behavior.. infact, he seems to pick up really good things from them.

As far as music goes... he listens to the same music that DH and I listen to. We actually rarely listen to children's music.

we only listen to the radio, so it's already censored music. we rarely listen to kids music..

as far as tv he watches treehouse, a station geared to preschoolers, but will also watch scooby doo *(loves it!), justice league, spiderman and xmen cartoons. The only show I watch during the day is csi and he doesn't pay attention. We don't usually watch our movies with him...there always seems to besomething I wouldn't want him to see/hear...but he does watch the simpsons,spiderman and xmen a lot.
