Women Charged More for Health Insurance

Pregnancy, C-sections and domestic abuse are all considered "pre-existing conditions" by some insurance companies. Its forcing many women to go without coverage. Dr. Nancy Snyderman discusses the health insurance double standard with Karen Ignagni of America's Health Insurance Plans.

It's true, unfortunately. During my first pregnancy I ran into that pre existing condition. I was lucky though, I did end up getting coverage after 90 days on the plan, but up until then all my pre natal was out of pocket. I was so happy to see that 90th day. Oh, and sometimes my epilepsy has been considered a pre existing condition and I had to pay more for that. Right now my biggest annoyance is arguing with my insurance company about prior authorizations and what is medically necessary. Other than that I've got good coverage.
