I have to go back to work in one week and my exclusively breastfed baby (7 weeks) refuses the bottle thus far.  She will suck (maybe, sometimes) for 1/2 a second then just start screaming.  I'm a FTM so don't have any experience to draw on.  I'm putting expressed milk in the bottle and am having my husband try feeding her but so far no luck.  Does anyone have any advice on how to make this transition?

TIA!!

Maybe try different bottles or fast/slower flow nipples?

While I have heard of babies who simply won't take a bottle, I suspect this is pretty rare. When I had my first, and was going back to work, I had this situation, too. There was a lot of crying. Like all day, but she eventually gave in. I found it heartbreaking. I have friends who have done this by leaving for the day and having husband/friend/grandma handle the transition day, which often is all it takes.

Best of luck,

Melissa

I am using Playtex bottles and nipples, which are more like a mother's nipple. My dd has been taking it just fine and has no problem coming back to me when it's time for bf.

I ended up having to do almost exactly that.  She'd fight it like nobodies business so finally the day came when I had to go back...DH said he'd bring her to me if she absolutely refused it and she fought the first time for about an hour then took it, the second time for 45 minutes and so on until bedtime.  Apparently she did the same thing at day care the next day but by her third full day of taking the bottle they tell me she takes it just fine now.  I hated leaving not knowing that she would be okay but what else could I do, ya know?
