I have just started the Nurtured Heart approach w/my 3 boys, ages 7, 9, and 12. The challenge I am finding is being able to muster as much enthusiasm for the positive that they do b/c I feel so worn out from the negatives. I guess it will become easier for me as I establish a consistent neutral reaction to problems.
My question is about the credit system: my kids want to pool their credits for certain privileges, and I'm not sure how to handle that. On the one hand, if it is an activity that everyone could participate in (for example, 1 way they can spend their credits is watching a nature show on a schoolnite when our schedule allows), it doesn't seem right to exclude some of them. However, on the other hand, the kids should have to earn enough for each privilege. Should I add a "surcharge" if they want to pool their credits? Any thoughts out there?
Thx in advance for any help!

HI and welcome to the board.  I've shared some ideas regarding the credit system in your post below.

You wrote:  "The challenge I am finding is being able to muster as much enthusiasm for the positive that they do b/c I feel so worn out from the negatives. I guess it will become easier for me as I establish a consistent neutral reaction to problems."

Congratulations on stepping into the journey of the Nurtured Heart Approach.  You will soon discover that seeing the positive will become much easier the more you practice and grow and use the tools.  One of the most important things I want to share with you regarding the Approach is to breathe and it's ok to reset yourself frequently!  You are Greatness in action and every recognition of greatness you share is a greatness within you!  Believe it, honor it!

Please drop in as often as you need.  We're here and looking forward to helping you along the way.

Hi there ! Oh I know what you mean about being worn out from the negative  to have energy for the positive.  It does become very tiring emotionally.  Keep strong..and sooner or later those positive words will just flow.  I sue to hang signs up around the house to remind me..but that was before Christopher could read..hahah...your kids are a bit older.  Although depending on what your sign says....it might help everyone.  I don't know if I "officially" used the credit system...and I only have one child..but if a certain activity "costs" 6 credits..I would make it that they each have to earn 2 points.  does that make sense..??  This way they are each accountable for their equal share.  I don't' see why not...and maybe you can say we will try it out and if you see thy are abusing this privilege things will change.   ???  do I make any sense..???  lol

Thx for your suggestions. I agree that I think it is ok for them to have a share if they're all choosing the activity. And I also agree that we're trying it out to see what needs fine tuning!!
