Question re follie size & trigger timing

Hi Ladies,

I had a follow-up u/s today (CD11) to see how my follies were developing.  I have two follies, one in each ovary.  One is 18mm and the other is 14mm.  They gave me an Ovidrel shot to self-administer tomorrow.  Yikes!  They said they like to see the follies at 18mm but they thought by waiting until tomorrow and then the time it takes the trigger to work, the second follie should catch up.  How fast do follies grow?  I think I read 1 - 2mm a day.  Does that sound right?  I am going to be gone most of tomorrow and was planning on taking it in the evening.  Do you think that sounds like good timing?

Thanks,

Donae

Donae ~

It sounds like great timing to me.  The growth of 1-2mm a day is pretty standard so if you are doing an IUI 36 hrs after trigger it'll be Monday morning?  By then I'd think the 14's will be 17-20mm and the 18's will be 21-24mm...all big enough to release.  GL!!!

Donae, Your timimg sounds good. Average follicle growth is 1-2mm but I have had lead follies grow slower than that, and once I had follies grow 4mm in one day. However this was all woth many, many follies and injectibles. 1-2 mm is about average.

If you are doing an IUI it should be 2 days after trigger in the am (about 36 hours after), if you are bding only I would bd the night of trigger, the next night, and the night after that.

Thanks Jenna,

I guess I am just worried that righty won't catch up fast enough.  I really need all the chances I can get.  We're not doing an IUI, just timed BDing.  I think its a little odd that they told me an IUI won't work with my DH's sperm, but they still want me to do all these rounds of oral medication.  But I am hoping that his numbers have improved since his SA in June, and we have a chance.

I planned to do the trigger tomorrow night and then BD Sat - Mon.  I really hope righty gets his act together.  I have always had large follies on CD11, so I was a little sad that I didn't this time.

Thanks for the info and I hope you get out of Limbo land with some good news!  I am sending you tons of P&PT that your BFP stciks!

Hi Caryn,

I'm just getting worried about the timing, so thank you for the reassurance.  We're not doing an IUI, just timed BDing Sat - Mon.  I really want both follies to release so we have a little more chance this month.  I think you're right, the smaller follie should be at least 17mm by the time I O, and that should be close enough.  I know they want 18mm, but I think 17mm will be fine.

Hope your pg continues to go smoothly and you have a great u/s on Tuesday!

Donae
