I only have one, but he's 16, so first time but not 'new'.
An idea - radio or loud ticking alarm clock. That helped my ds way back when; they said it's noisy in the womb what with mom's heartbeat and other bodily noises - some newborns don't like quiet houses. So we put on a talk show during the night - he loved it.
Another thought - in dh's family, most of the babies came out teething. Not the norm, for sure, but definitely something to consider; those new little teeth can be very painful (ds made it seem like someone had cut off a limb every time he cut a new one for the first year or two)
