We did have to wait really. You go in on Tues to do paperwork and go over everything and then the abortions are done on Thursday. If you get your abortion on tues, you go in the previous Thurs. My decision wouldnt have changed either way.

I was about 6 weeks along when I found out I was pregnant by taking a home pregnancy test.
The very next day, I went to the abortion clinic to take a free pregnancy test there (to confirm) and also to check it out, see how it looked, whether it was a good place or not...
Scheduled an appointment for the abortion, which was almost a week later. There is no waiting period in my state (NY) but since the clinics are busy, the traffic determines the waiting period... In that time, I did a lot of thinking. I really wanted to go through with the counseling, see whether the baby looked healthy on the sonogram, and so forth. Well, you get to the clinic, you get a hurried interview with a nurse (this counts as counseling, I guess) and a sonogram. I changed my mind. I had been wavering before even going in there, but I knew for sure I couldn't go through with an abortion while i was at the clinic. The clinic required me to pay up front, BEFORE my appointment, and then withdrew some charges for the counseling and the sonogram. I was not impressed. And I am SO glad I decided to carry the baby... I found potential adoptive families right away. I'm now starting counseling for the adoption process.
While there is no 24-hour waiting period in my state, I did have a wait, and I am GLAD I did. Why not wait 24 hours anyway? Most of us are capable of making good decisions and have thought through the consequences of our options before even going in for an abortion, but there are some younger girls who call for an appointment the second they find out they're pregnant, because they're afraid of going through with the pregnancy due to peer and parental pressure. Given more time, they might see that a pregnancy is not the end of the world.
Now, this scenario is quite different from women who have found they are carrying a baby with problems... I don't know, but still... does it kill anyone to wait a day?
