It seems that although we've come a long way, baby, we're still being treated as if we can't make decisions for ourselves. It always upsets me when people push their beliefs on others and that's just what these conseratives are doing. I'm thankful to read that there are powerful group s prepared to fight for women's rights and that we still have a chance to make decisions for ourselves.

I'd suggest writing our Senators and telling them not to vote for this bill. Also we should adopt Jan's strategy of not voting for anti-abortion public officials. I've always taken the abortion stance into account when voting, but it's not been the deciding factor. So I've sometimes voted for anti-abortion officials. I belive I'll be rethinking that strategy.

You know, as much as I hate to admit this to you all, I don't disagree with parts of this. I do believe that if a fetus is viable, the mother should carry to term, or even deliver earlier than term and give up for adoption at the point of viability, say 27 weeks.

I think its disgusting for politickers to allude that 'loop holes' for a mothers health could be found. I think that's garbage. I think that if a mothers mental health is a real health problem (and it is) than she should be allowed the right to deliver early. We don't want women who would raise and later possibly commit infantcide during PPD. Which is worse? And as far as health vs life of the mother, who makes this call? So, is a blood pressure of 250/120 ok or at what point does she infarct her brain and become a vegetable? Which is health and which is life?

I don't know. Having been on both sides of the pregnancy thing, I think that 25 weeks (that's 5 months!) should be more than ample time to make a decision about termination.
