My DD is on Focalin XR right now and she has never had any sleep problems until just within the past week. She’s been on meds for quite a while now. Is that weird that sleep problems have just begun? I haven’t called the psych or ped yet to discuss, I thought I’d get a few ideas before I do that to know what I’m talking about.

What do you do for your ADHD child’s sleep problems? Thanks!

Tracy

MY DD has big sleep issues, i noticed now that school is over she is sleeping a lot better.  I have been giving her a small dosage of melatonin.  It usually takes a month before you see a difference.

DD has sleep problems sometimes, we use Melatonin, .33 mgs, it works within 30minutes to an hour and the results are almost instant. Since DD is not on meds during the summer, we use it rarely, but sometimes

Honestly, if she's been on meds for months & never had a problem before, I'd wonder about other causes--presuming meds are being given at the same time, etc., etc.? Anything change recently? Out of school, new camp, more or less tired, etc., etc.?

Mine likes--especially in summer--to take a shower when he's having problems sleeping. Seems to work well for him. He can have the occasional med-induced issue (generally extra boosters for some event, or a very, very late pill back when we did Concerta). Seriously rare since we went to Focalin, though if we boost quite late in the day (parental "oops", or writing homework we were unaware of), it can still happen.

My DS has a tendency to sleep walk, which he's had for about as long as he's been out of his crib.  I remember him being a small baby and just screaming bloody murder in his crib.  I would run upstairs and he was there sound asleep.  I don't know what that was all about, but it grew into sleep talking and sleep walking.  He'll be starting focalin soon, we'll see if his sleep issues get worse.
