I've had my DS taking Omega-3, and a number of other supplements for about a month now.  We've also started chiropractic treatment two weeks ago.  Thus far, I have not seen  results in the way of improvements in focus at school, or his ability to turn in his homework on time, thus his grades have not improved.  My parents however have noted a very good improvement in his behavior.  I too have noticed improvements at home.  Less argumentative, gets up on his own in the mornings, brushes his teeth without a battle, accepts consequenses without a meltdown.  The other day he did his list of chores while I was out and about with his sister and it was done to my satisfaction without nagging or yelling.  I have some questions and hope you can help.  For those who tried alternatives, did you see resulst in using supplements?  If you did, how long before they worked?  Did anyone try Attend?  Did you see improvements?

I'm determined to commit to the alternative methods at least until Jan. 1 to make a difference before I consider medicating my DS, but I wanted some feedback as to how long before I may see differences at school and definitely wanted some feedback on the Attend before I shell out the $$.  Thank you!

We tried Attend a couple of years ago, and saw nothing. There isn't any one thing in Attend, or any of the other " ADHD supplements" to do anything. Omega's , magnesium, and Vitamin E are what we use, and the only things to show results.

As long as you are using a Therapeutic dose of Omega's and using Vitamin E with them( VERY important) you should see results in 3-4 months.

Thank you for your reply.  What would you consider a therapeutic dose?  I've tried to google it, but do not believe I'm finding it.  DS takes 1000mg of Omega-3, twice daily, and magnesium 1x daily.  He also takes ginko bilboa and multivitamins daily.  I wasn't aware of the vitamin E.  I'll have to check his vitamins to see if it's in that.  If not, I'll go get that separate.

We use Omega's, regular dose.  Although DS takes Focalin XR we have seen a change in his behavior at home when the meds wear off.  I'm sticking with the Omegas because of this.  We saw results in about 5 weeks on the regular dose Omegas.

The Omega mgs doesn't matter, it is the EPA/DHA dosage that matters. Therapeutic dose is 750EPA/480 DHA daily. DD takes roughly 3000mgs Omega's to reach this dose.

The Vitamin E protects against free radicals that are formed as the Omega's are broken down.

Therapeutic Dose of magnesium is I think 400 mgs daily. Go slow with mag though, it is the active ingredient in Milk of magnesia, and we all know what that does.

Here is an article about Mag, very interesting.
