Questions about one side or both sides?!

I really need to start pumping, and while I know there's a pumping board, I thought I'd start here!

My DD is almost 8 weeks old. We've always switched sides during a feeding. She's recently started spitting up a lot, and I think some of that is due to intaking too much. She usually eats between 15-20 minutes on the first side and 10-15 on the second side.

I'd like to start just feeding her on one side and pumping the other but I'm totally nervous about it! What if she isn't satisfied? Will she have to nurse longer on that one side to compensate?

She won't take a paci or suck her thumb, so she's really using me as her pacifier right now.

Any advice would be fantastic!

I had to let my dd nurse on one side so she wouldn't get too much.  I wish I had pumped the other side but I didn't.  I would suggest pumping one side while she nurses on the other and letting her pull off on her own.  If she still seems hungry you can alway put her on the other side after you pump.  Babies get milk out better than a pump so there will still be plenty in there for her to drink if she wants it.  GL and just keep trying different techniques until you find what works for you.

Kara, I love your new siggy--she is such a cutie!

Like the pp said, you should e fin with nursing on one side and pumping on the other. If you don't want to do that, you can just pump early in the morning while she's still sleeping (that's what I did with Isabella).

As long as you have a good electric pump, pumping while nursing shouldn't be an issue. If you just want to pump while she's not nursing, I actually found the Avent Isis to be a really good hand pump for me. When I had drunk enough water, I could get out 3 oz in 10 minutes. Of course, when I hadn't been downing enough water, or hadn't pumped in a few days, it took a loooot longer. :)
