Sidelying with large breasts? Help Pls

I am trying to work on the sidelying position during the day with DD so we can start doing this in the evenings as well. She is a slow nurser (takes over an hour sometimes because she starts and stops while sleeping).

My concern is that when I lay down, it seems like I need to hold my breast up and in the right position. By laying down it flattens in the wrong way and the nipple seems to want to 'fall out' of DD's mouth. If I have to prop up on one arm, I'm so uncomfortable that I might as well get up because I wont be resting like that.

Does sidelying just not work for large breasts? Help! I'd really like to use this position. For large chested moms... have you been able to use sidelying successfully and how did you support your breasts?

I would nurse with my DS lying on my arm which put him in the right position.  It can be difficult when they're newborn.  Both of you are still learning.  Try rolling up a washcloth or hand towel and putting it under your breast to see if that helps.  Good luck!

Have you seen this site? It has pics on how to do sidelying. http://www.mother-2-mother.com/tut-layingdown.htm

And um, it took us until Isabella was 2 months to get the whole laying down and nursing thing. When she was itsy bitsy, I did have to hole my breast in the right position. And there were times when my arm went numb and I thought I was going to die. But we're still alive and have figured out the side-lying thing and are still going strong with it. :)

No I hadn't seen that site but it is helpful, thanks! =)

Savaya is 9 weeks old, but technically only a week and a half since she was 8 weeks premature. And shes really only been breastfeeding well for about 2-3 weeks so we are still on the "learning" mode for now.

I talked to my LC today and she said to roll towards her more and also suggested the pillows and rolled blankets for DD and myself. I'll try it this afternoon!

Hi! I think its funny that your LC told you to roll towards your dd when I was going to say the opposite! Lol It seems that that would put your nipple closer to the bed and make it fall out of her mouth that much quicker. I have large breasts and this is how I do it:
I lay on my side, I put one pillow behind my back for support(because it gets sore after a while trying to hold myself in just the right position), I put a rolled up receiving blanket behind ds's back. I put my arm (the one closest to the bed) up under my pillow that my head is on (yes, we are at 3 pillows now! lol) If your nipple is seeming to be falling out of her mouth, I would say it is pointing towards or is too close to the bed so I would say to roll away from her just a pinch.
Just thought I'd suggest that in case the other suggestions don't work. I will also say that it gets MUCH easier as they get older. When they are newborn, they just don't really have the neck muscles to hold their head the way they need to, but if you just keep working at it- you'll find what works for you guys! Good luck!
