crying child be kicked off a plane?

Pamela Root's 2-year-old son was screaming for the Southwest Airlines plane to "Go! Plane! Go!"

The plane returned to the gate for what the pilot described as “a passenger issue” which was the first Root knew she and her son were being forced to deplane. As she describes it, the conversation with the attendant who escorted her off went something like this:

“We just can’t tolerate that for two hours.”
“He’ll be fine once we take off.”
“We’ve heard that before.”

What do you think?  Should they have been kicked off?  Even if he yelled the two hours?  Would they have kicked a crying newborn off?

I know how annoying it is to have a loud child on a plane.  But kids yell.  And this mother said the child would settle down once he was fed.  And I bet he would.  How many of us wanted to yell "go, plane, go!" while sitting and waiting for the plane to take off?  I think it's pretty crappy of the airline to kick them off.  PLUS, the mother claims she had no idea why they were heading back to the gate until she was asked to get off.  I hope she can sue.

I can see the side of the airline - it's better to make all passengers happy than to make mother and child happy and upset everyone else.  Still, kicking them off seems a bit extreme, but I guess I don't see another way.  Perhaps they need to invest in a child "area" in planes, where crying children can go (even if it's just a small play room) so that the noise won't be so prevalent to all the other passengers.  Sometimes just having that wall between the crying child and everyone else can make such a difference!

You know, there are lots of annoyances in life, and it bugs me soooo much that people can be so intolerant of others, especially babies and little kids, who don't always understand what's ok.

But while we're on the subject, let's also start removing people who snore or wear perfume from planes b/c I really can't stand 2 hours of that. ;)

ok, i can kinda see both sides because while i have a kid, i absolutely hate children on airplanes.

i just wish airplanes had a family section (maybe even sound proof) so other people who want to sleep and relax can be left in peace.

my worst experience EVER was a 9 hour flight across the atlantic. a couple put their 3 children behind me with 3 bags of candy and then went to sit in 1st class. i was kicked in the back of the chair for 9 hours not to mention they were squabling over toys the whole time too. i couldnt change seats cuz the plane was full. that was miserable.

on the other hand though, the plane is kinda like the public bus. everyone can travel on it and i dont think they should've thrown her off. maybe they couldve just moved the people who were annoyed by it to other seats.

whenever i end up next to a child i dont make a scene, i just go out of earshot of the mom and ask for a different seat but i also do the same thing when i end up next to a stinky person, lol.
