Blood sugar numbers rising

When is your appointment w/ the endo? 170/180 is high (and is considered to be the same number, meter can have up to a 20% error in reading, so all three numbers are near each other and within the error margin.. it also shows that it wasn't a false higher reading.. ) are you sure his hands were clean.. this will be the FIRST question you get asked when a child has a higher reading.. if they aren't cleaned w/ soap and water then there is a possibility that there is food on the fingers causing the high bg.. second, log the numbers (if you aren't already) w/ times and how far after a meal it was.. my older daughter is constantly high at night, she is non-d, but its not uncommon for her to be 180 at bedtime.. she will fall over night.. have you checked waking numbers? These are usually the last to go w/ type 1 developing because the body has all night to catch up to the higher bg..
If either of your sons start to get flu like symptoms it may NOT be the flu, it could be something called DKA, which is very dangerous if not treated asap.. if you see mass amounts of drinking, throwing up, lethargy, sweet or acidic breath, anything that isn't right, take them to the ER right away.. if you get a number over 200, call the pedi right away.. if your meter ever says "HI" its NOT being nice.. it means to the bg is over 500 or 600, depending on the meter.. if you get a HI, I urge you NOT to freak out, but rewash hands and check again, if you get a HI again, call the pedi right away and head to the ER... Unfortunatily they can't dx type 1 until a random bg is over 200.. sometimes they claim that home meters aren't accurate (yet, we all trust our children's lives to them, so they certaintly are accurate).. push for testing, if you feel something isn't right, don't take an answer that sounds silly or inaccurate, a LOT of pedi's don't even know the signs of type 1..
Let us know how things are going. I hope you get answers soon!
