First I want to say I WISH there were more selections for a family of 5 at disney to stay at....

We are planning on going Oct 2010, and are really torn where to stay.  Money wise we would love to do a value however we wouldn't fit in one room and don't really need two.  Having one bathroom and small space is not a big deal to us since the kids like to be close to us anyway.  The family suite looks ok except you can't apply discounts to those right?  So looking at the Port new orleans and their rooms that fit 5....not sure how much they appeal to me, anyone stay here have anything to say?

My dream would be to stay at the Poly but I just can't fathom spending that.  For those that remember us we stayed at the contemporary last year and while it was nice we used an inheritance that was given to us strickly for a family vacation so we went all out, now that it is our money ....: )

Any input or help??? thanks!!!

We're starting to get to a point where a second bathroom, or at least a second area with a door is pretty much a requierment when we travel becuase my oldest is 11 and srarting to want some more privacy - which also means my 5yo's are copying her! LOL

Normally the discounts don't apply to the family suites, but I've read 3 people, one on this board and 2 at another board, say that they managed to get free dining with the FS - so, I can't say for certain anymore. I'm taking the girls in Jan for a gymnastics competition and the FS is 1st on my list becuase it's less expensive than the cabins - though w/o dh we'd fit in a regular value room. So sometime in Mid Oct when they announce the discounts we'll see. I know that when I price the FS out for clients interested in the FS  I always check the codes first and am always told no.

I don't think I could do one room at POR with *my* 3 kids, but many people have done it and are happy with it. We spend a lot of time in the room though, so it's more than just a place to sleep for us. I've stayed at POFQ - the rooms are the same size, and they're nice.

We love the cabins - have you looked at them?  They are included in discounts.

There's no rightanswer to your question since it depends not only on your budget but how you travel as well.

We have not stayed there yet, but I am sure that will be where we stay in the future.  We are staying at Coronado Springs in Nov since our dd is 2.  If she were 3 that would not be an option for our family of 5.  For us our hotel is strictly a room we sleep in.  We are in Disney to do the parks & do not spend any time in our room except for sleeping & getting ready.  We tend to take quick showers, plus DH & I shower in the morning & our girls usually shower at night before bed.

As Sonya said it really depends on how your family travels.

This is our first time (since I was a kid) staying someplace other than a Value resort or Shades of Green.

Sonya the cabins look right up our alley (we love the wilderness, camping etc) but I guess I thought they were higher priced too?  DH wants to do the deluxe dining again because he doesn't like to do counter service with our 3 picky kids and trying to carry trays etc.....so that's where our money will be going LOL.  So I was thinking we wouldn't need the kitchen and stuff in the cabins.  oh the decisions....I'm just happy I convinced DH to go back so soon! : )

We stayed at Riverside once, in the Alligator Bayou section (the rooms that have the trundle beds and sleep 5). We are only a family of 4, and I did not request the trundle, but it was in there when we checked in. It worked out really well because my boys hate sharing a bed, and always did...even when they were 9 and 5! My 5 year old slept on the trundle, but I will warn you that it is small. And short. So unless you have tiny children, it might not work. Like, it wouldn't work for us now that our kids are 14 and 10. I laid down on it and my feet hung off the end! LOL

The rooms have been renovated since we stayed there. At the time, they were rustic in decor, but comfortable and spacious enough for us. They are a hair larger than the value rooms. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of separation between the sink area and the rest of the room, but it is my understanding that they have now put a curtain up to divide the two.

Riverside itself is BEAUTIFUL! We loved everything about it...the pool, the main building and food court, the boat access to DTD. The "Mansion" buildings were lovely, but they don't have the trundle beds. Only the Alligator Bayou section has them (although maybe this changed, we stayed there in 2004)

We would stay there again in a heartbeat, as we would, really, in all of the resorts we've stayed in! The only reason we haven't repeated yet is because we've wanted to try out some of the different resorts! I'm sure, eventually, we'll repeat a few! :)
