I am back! We had a good weekend. We drove all day on Thursday (11 hours…) on Friday morning we got to the sort clinic. (yes, it is for gender selection, we have 3 boys, and I really want a daughter, but we have to do IVF anyway… so I figured why not)There was another couple there, the guy was talking to the lab tech, it was a small office, so I could over hear him. He was upset and the tech was saying that “they would combine the two samples, and if they were not good enough they would have to cancel the sort, they could re-try the next month. I had not even been informed this was a possibility. So after the guy left (upset) I asked the lab tech if that happened much, and he said, not often, but it does happen. So anyway, my DH gave a sample. They told us to stay in the area for an hour, if we don’t hear from the we can leave. I asked them to call either way so we would know. So we went shopping for about and hour, and they called us and said the sample was not good enough, and they needed another one. Well, as you can imagine, I was worried about that. My wonderful DH was able to get another sample (thank goodness) then I was asking the lab tech questions, and he said the motility was low, so they might not be able to sort. I was told it was low before we decided to do this, but my RE said if we did ICSI it would not be a problem, so that was our plan, but the tech said if I was not good enough he wouldn’t sort. So we left, when we got in the car, I had a meltdown and started to cry. I cried for most of the hour, I called people I had talked to… I will not get into all it, but the story has a good ending. About an hour and a half later, I had one of the directors of the clinic (whom I had called) call me back and say no problem, the second sample made it “good enough”
I think I have some small idea of the stress I’m going to go thru the next month, can’t say I’m looking forward to it.
At Disneyland I bought a soft pink and brown Minnie Mouse baby toy. She is so cute!! I am going to take her to all my appointments as my lucky charm!
