"A realm of sunny days where everything's A-OK, the series starts its new season with episode 4187, which features the letter H and, naturally, the number 40. With it and the 25 new hours that follow, "Sesame Street" will continue to explore its chosen habitat — and experiment with how it does the job.

"We think of every year as experimental," says Carol-Lynn Parente, the show's executive producer, "and this new season is just part of that continuing evolution."

Forty years ago, Big Bird was planning to leave Sesame Street.  But even today, the famed street remains his home.  What is your or your child's favorite memory of Sesame Street?

Don't know if you could pin it down --- my DH and I (no kids, just us!) were addicted to Sesame Street when we were in grad school at UF back in the late 1960s, so we found it very close to the beginning!

I loved (love) Sesame Street. Big Bird is my favorite character. And you're right it is almost impossible to pin point one scene. But I guess the most memorable one would have to be when Mr Hooper died.

I have always loved Sesame Street. I remember absolutely loving the Big Bird movie when I was a little girl. I don't remember it much now, was Big Bird running away? I love watching it now with my kids. This morning Avery taught me how to hop like a frog, which she learned from watching the show earlier.

Oh that is wonderful, Mandy! They learn so much from SS. I can't believe that the same people who started 40 years ago are still on there! Maria, Gordon...and they all look the same. I hope I age that well. LOL.
