Teacher reprimanded...for stating a fact

A 7th grade history teacher was reprimanded for stating that the Aztec king was given cocoa mixed with hot peppers as an aphrodesiac so that he could father many warrior sons. A parent complained about the sexual implications and the teacher was given a letter of reprimand in his personel file.

Does this action by the district strike anyone else as being a little over the top?

Was it necessary for a grade 7 class? No.

I'm not really sure it would have been necessary for any age group. It just doesn't seem like pertinent historical information.

When learning Ancient Greek history I wonder if it would be appropriate for the teacher to tell the children about the homosexuality and pedophilia.  (DH and I were watching show on the History Channel about the philosophers etc and the show mentioned this)

If the teacher had been talking about the number of people who were considered royality due to their bloodlines to the king and how that played out in waring factions and politics etc...and a kid asked how so many people could be related to the king etc then he was stating a fact.  If he thought it was a cool fact that he thought the kids would think was interesting but was teaching about the main crops of the Aztecs etc then I can see the reprimand...

It seems a little over the top to me.
