I've seen some other folks talking about this story. Did any of your read about it?

Teens sue school over punishment for racy pics
Summer vacation lingerie-and-lollipop photos were posted on MySpace

INDIANAPOLIS - Two sophomore girls have sued their school district after they were punished for posting sexually suggestive photos on MySpace during their summer vacation.

I know we've talked in the past about a boy who made threats of violence on Facebook and how it was okay for the school to take action on that.

Do you think this is something the school should be involved in as well? Where is the line drawn?

I do think they are 2 separate issues.  The threats of violence impact other people's safety.  The girls only jeopardize themselves, and therefore, it's up to the parents to monitor what their kids are doing.

Did you see the Georgia teacher who was "fired" (told to resign or else) for posting pictures from her trip to Ireland that included a couple of pictures of her holding a beer from a pub?  She wasn't intoxicated nor were the pictures that they showed on CNN provocative in anyway.  They were just pictures of her holding a full glass of lager.  I thought that was crazy!

I do NOT think that teachers should be befriending students currently in school.  Jason's asst band director from high school friends his students after they graduate, which I have no problem with.  A friend of mine teaches Chemistry, and I'm pretty sure she has current students on her friend's list.  I think that's just asking for trouble.

Tracy - wife to Ron since 9/9/03, mom to college sophomore, Jason (18), high school Junior Chase (16), 1st grader Liam (6), and the sassy princess Olivia (3)

"I do NOT think that teachers should be befriending students currently in school."

ITA - My DH teaches elementary school and all the kids see him as the cool teacher. He accepted a few friend requests, then deleted them eventually. No matter how good of a person you are, you just never know what someone will try to accuse you of. I told him he shouldn't take ANY chances at all. If anything, set up a group like "Mr. B's Class Page" so that it's public and the kids can all talk about assignments that are due, etc. and the parents can see what's going on at all times.
