Of course I would use cloth diapers on another kid.  That's the whole point of cloth diapers isn't it?  That they aren't disposable.  That they are reusuable.  That they are better for the environment for those very reasons. I used the same cloth diapers for both of my kids and passed them along to another family for use on their kids.  I soaked them in plain water, rinsed them in the washing machine, washed in hot with detergent and hung them out to dry.  Don't dismiss sunlight as a wonderful bleaching and disinfecting agent.  I never bleached.  Chlorine bleach is a nasty chemical that can cause lots of horrible reactions, especially for kids with autism so we don't use it here.  My diapers were white, well off-white cause they were made from unbleached fabric and they always lookoed and smelled fresh and clean.  I had no qualms about using them on my kids nor did I have qualms about passing them on to someone else.

I agree with the PP that we need to stop having such a throw-away mentality.  If something is still useful then it should be used not thrown away to clog up the landfill and waste precious raw materials.  I would rather use hand-me-down underpants of excellent quality than new cheap dollar store undies any day.

And as someone asked above...yes, I would wear and have worn hand-me-down undies.  My sister bought some recently, wore them, hated the style and gave them to me.  And didn't you ever share stuff with your roommate in college?  I know we borrowed undies if we ran out.  We borrowed swimsuits when we needed one, we borrowed socks, and even...bras.  I mean if something is washed, then it is clean.  If it wasn't considered clean then why would you put it back on your own body?

And really, if you sit on the same toilet seat as other people (even your own family members) then you are in contact with lots of germs right there on your hiney.  Do you have a separate toilet seat for every member of your family?  A separate washing machine?  A separate hermetically sealed spot for toothbruses?  Are we truly so germaphobic that we can't be reasonable?  Yikes!!

Oh, wow! xox

Just before she came home she got the MRSA in a couple of pressure sores from when she was on life support, etc..

Bleach and lysol are what we are using, too.  We use gloves, gown, etc., when doing the dressings if they need changing when the homecare nurse isn't here (she comes for that and other things), or fixing her PICC line.

Dermatology sees her for those and other wounds (her skin, and just about everything else, failed when she was in septic shock after surgery, so some old scars opened, etc., and there are a lot of wounds from abdominal and lung drains but most of those have healed).

I clean a lot, but it hadn't occurred to me to wear gloves when washing her clothes and the bed pads, etc..   (its in pressure sores she got while on life support, etc.).  Also, I wasn't doing anything about her wheelchair seat, seat in the car, or wearing gloves when I transfer her, etc. if she is dressed.  Nothing had been said about all that except that it's already in the general population anyway.  I will ask about it re: my DD, thanks :)

ETA To come to think of it, I'm not sure if we are using gloves anymore when we give her shots, either.  I'm tired, will check lol.

Understood :)

When I had first posted on the thread, I wasn't sure if we'd passed underthings on or not.  It didn't occur to me that some of their diapers were passed on lol.  I didn't do it at the time re: landfill issues but because that's what I thought everybody did.  I doubt my grandmothers made new diapers for each child, for ex..

I just realized now, reading your post, that whether we did or not then, even in their teens the girls often shared stuff since including bras, pj bottoms, etc..  Also on occassion I end up in my spouse's (a woman) or visa versa.  What microbes bleach doesn't get, the sunlight via the clothesline does a nice job on, and it's not like we are germ free anyway and we pick up stuff all over the place.

Anybody Here, see the noise, see the fear and comotion?
I think we missed it
Anybody Here,see the love,see the hate,the emotion?

Don't give me no hand me down shoes
don't give me no hand me down love
don't give me no hand me down world
I got one already

Anybody here, see the long distance cheer for the notion?
I think we missed it
Anybody here see the sky weepin' tears for the ocean?

Don't give me no hand me down shoes
don't give me no hand me down love
don't give me no hand me down world
I got one already

Anybody here, see the fuzzy wuzzy lovin' explosion?
I think we missed it
anybidy here, see the changin' of the year, and the motion

Don't give me no hand me down shoes
don't give me no hand me down love
don't give me no hand me down world
I got one already

Don't give me no hand me down world
I don't really need it and I'm not gonna take it
Don't give me no hand me down world
don't give to me cause I really don't want it,no
Don't give me no hand me down world
I don't wanna take it and I really don't need it
Don't give me no hand me down world
don't wanna take,don't wanna take it,cause i really don't need it
Don't give me no hand me down world
you know I don't want it,you no i don't need it
Don't give me no hand me down world
I don't wanna take it cause I don't wanna need it

~ The Guess Who

I'm trying to picture this rewritten to reference undies...

Sometimes, sometimes I see right through the scenery
The first place that's on my mind the last place I find each time
Sometimes, I swim beyond the scenery
The last place that's on my mind
The first place I find each time
~ Beth Orton
