ITA with your points & I only want to add in a few more. There is no incentive for men to marry especially how the court system screws them over if they try to leave. How many divorced moms do you know that once the marriage is toast use the kids as a hostage and for ransom? I wouldn't want to work for x amount of years, decided I'm not happy with my partner, and then figure out all too late that revenge is on the ex spouse's mind & not what's in the best interest of the children. There is an old saying of "It's cheaper to keep her". So sad really--staying in a marriage because you don't want to financially be destitute if you leave it.

I'm not sure what you mean, sorry. Child support (which would be required of the noncustodial parent regardless of whether they were previously married), or sharing of assets (which here for the most part would happen after years of living together anyway)?

"How many divorced moms do you know that once the marriage is toast use the kids as a hostage and for ransom?"

Probably about as many of them as there are deadbeat dads who think once they wash their hands of their kids' mother(s) they get to wash their hands of their financial responsibilty to their children.

"So sad really--staying in a marriage because you don't want to financially be destitute if you leave it. "

You do realize that ALL non-custodial parents are legally responsible for child support, right?  Regardless of marital status?  Also, have you ever heard of palimony?

For the same reason of having to pay the court for something you're not in full knowledge of, whether it's a job or because of typographical errors.  I don't agree in paying a court for an error or for the same reason of paying a church for administrative costs.  Either way, if an agreement to the background exists, I can see why.  If there isn't one, I don't see why the payment can't be taken to court.

I must have a thumbs up about this.  I should at least know *something* about it.

Im not really sure what this means?

Palimony is like alimony for unmarried partners.  It varies pretty widely by state, but in many areas judges will award support and/or assets when unmarried partners in long-term, marital like relationships split up.

So the notion that you can avoid having to share any assets or support someone following a breakup by refusing to get married isn't necessarily based in fact.
