Weird situation here... My DH has been stop lossed for about a year.  He decided he wanted out and did not take any opportunites to re up.  After lots of talking and soul searching he decided that it wasn't the Army he wanted out of, but his job. (25U) He has loved his job for the past 8 years but no longer feels challenged, etc.  Soooo, after talking with his career counselor he has requested to re-up with a re-class.  (MI)  He is asking a lot here.  1) to be allowed to re enlist after not taking the opportunities.  2)to be allowed to re enlist after being on stop loss and recieving the pay (No, we were not trying to ride the system.  We will pay it all back if needs be.) 3)to reclass.

He has submitted a letter of request with his packet, along with letters of recommendation from the CSM, Bn Cmdr, and Bn XO.  It has been approved by the BGDE Commander and now is headed to the HRC Commander.

His current MOS is evenly strenthed and the one he wants is understrength and needs SSG's, so that could be good.  How  long does approval for something like this take?  I don't know how often requests like this come around.  I'm dying over here!

So, here is my experience. It usually takes 3-4 months for something like this to get through. UNLESS, you can get someone with hoursepower behind the deal - one star or above, seator, congressman, someone like that. OR, it could be faster if they need fill in MI don't know the answer to that since DH is not MI.

Lots of luck and hoped this helped!

Annette

I have no clue how long it will take, but I would guess awhile! We've done requests for things before and the system is SLOOOOW! I hope you find out soon! What does he want to do (if you don't mind me asking)? There are lots of opportunities to be challenged in the Army! DH was in the same boat when we were first in but now is doing his dream job so hopefully yours will get to do the same! Just remember the Army's motto- hurry up and wait! lol

Well DH and I are playing a waiting game on 2 fronts right now. 1) is to transfer units from houston to Dallas, BUT since 2) DH has put in for an early release from Reserves it is a waiting game on which will be completed first. My DH is 25B and right now doesnt feel challenged because he does nothing and he feels like he training is being wasted. When DH put in for his early release he spoke about changing his MOS if he goes active so we will see what happens. From a few friends that have been in your position some of them it has taken 3-6 months and a few got through faster because they knew people in the right places to speed things along for them. Hopefully all goes well and it wont take forever.

BTW Hi Sarah
