Hi, new here and trying to figure out a problem.

We are currently stationed remotely and are using Prime Remote.  It is a small town and we were forced to buy a house as there is absolutely nothing to rent here.  DH now has orders to a military location but the kids and I are staying behind until we (if ever) sell the house.  Cannot afford a mortgage and a large monthly rent.  So he will be living cheap there while we stay in the house.  With the insurance, Tricare said that since he will be stationed at a military base then we will no longer be authorized for Prime Remote.

I was terrified while trying to figure out Remote, now I have to figure out Standard and/or Extra.  Can anyone here give me a run down on the costs.  Tricare website and customer service is no help, too vague.  I need examples.

I know there is the deductible.  Do I send them a check or is it that the coverage starts after I fork over the money to doctors/clinics.

The cost share is 20% (if I remember right), now is that 20% of what the doctor charges, or 20% of the Tricare allowable charges?  i.e. Physical Therapist charges $200, but Tricare only allows $100, would it be 20% of $200 or $100?

And what is the deal about switching back and forth from Standard to Extra to Standard.  The website said I can just go back and forth depending on the appointment.  Sounds complicated, can anyone dumb it down for me?

And though Tricare said that we'd no longer be able to be Prime Remote, is there anyway that ya'll have heard of to get around that?  I am right in the middle of physical therapy and being treated by an orthopedic surgeon.  Will my service be cut off the minute hubby signs in to his new duty station (in 3 weeks.)  ugh-such a hassle

And, prescriptions, want to make sure that those prices will not be raised.

Thanks for any insight ya'll can give me.

Dawn

Hi Dawn have you looked at http://www.militaryonesource.com/skins/MOS/home.aspx?partner=google&gclid=CLnGjJi3vJ0CFSDxDAodUQsVjQ

I'm not sure if that web site will help you out or not. I always thought that you stayed what every your tri-care was until you got to your new duty station. Well you are not going there only your DH is. Have you checked into him going as a geo-bachelor Not sure if that will help you or not. Another thing is have you had your house on the market to sell. If I remember correctly the military will buy your house if you are changing duty stationed and have been trying to sell your house and it wont sell. So that is another option to look into. I'm not sure if I was any help or not but good luck in finding your answer. Welcome to the board, I hope you stick around here. I'm Sue married to my Dh Alan, Dh is AD Air Force. We have 2 kids and 3 fur kids.

This may or may not help.  There is a program for PCS orders.  It's not fully in place yet but it is coming.  If your interested in moving with your husband.  The military is working on it. http://hap.usace.army.mil/EP_PCS.html

Hi Dawn -

First, let me say, I have been where you are and, girlfriend, it is not fun. We lived for 6 months without DH because of a housing situation and it was stressful for all.

About Tricare- My experience is this- Where we are right now, DH works on an installation but we live more than 50 miles from it - he commutes everyday. DH is seen at the miltiary medical facility. The kids and I are Tricare Prime Remote. We have a local civilian PCM and get referrals for specialty care. However, we are in the same region of Tricare. Don't know from your info if your DH is going out of region and that might make a difference.

About the army paying for your house as someone else said - that doesn't happen for soldiers. It is possible for some civilians depending on their contract and position but not even General Officers get help with PCSing.

I highly recommend you contact Military One Source. They are very helpful in getting you the info you need. You might also call the Health Benefits Advisor (HBA) at your DHs new duty station. They can tell you exactly what you need to know. Usually you can google the number by using the post name and Tricare office or HBA office - WARNING this is different than the Patient Representative or Patient Advocate at some hospitals. The HBA is specific to Tricare and has better info for you.

Good Luck and I hope it all works out for you.
