Military Families

I stumbled upon this board today and thought I'd try to keep up with it! I already love ivillage but haven't been involved in the military board before, I'm looking forward to it!

So I'm Tanya, DH is in the Army, we're stationed in Stuttgart, Germany and we have a 19 month old boy, Cody. Oh, and our dog, Daisy, she's a golden retriever mix. We've only been stationed one other place- Fort Bragg, NC. We'll most likely be lifers lol but we'll see how the next few years go, honestly though, I don't see our life going any other way! DH is at 6 years now so by the time we're done in Germany he'll be at 8. We'd probably go back to Fort Carson or Bragg when we're done here.

I am a stay at home mom and I'm doing photography on the side. Hoping to one day make that into a business... however I do have a bachelors degree in computer science to fall back on! You'd think I'd be using it by now... oh well! I love being able to do what I love!

So that's a little bit about me! I am looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Tanya, welcome to the boards. I'm Stacey and my DH is Rob. We have on DS, Nathan who's 7. We are stationed at Ft. RIley right now. We don't know what will happen after this enlistment is up at this point because some things have come up in the past year and a half that make things tricky. Rob has been in the Army for 15 years now. He started out active duty, then switched to reserves, and is currently back in active duty.

Thanks. Even though Rob's been in for 15 years, since some of it was as reserve time, it doesn't count the same way towards retirement as active duty does. So he actually only has about 11 years that is considered towards retirement.

The reason he's thinking about getting out is because last year he messed his knee up really badly and since then has had 2 knee surgeries. He has continuous pain in his knee, can't run, do bending exercises, and a bunch of other things. He's in the process of getting a permanent profile, which may or may not lead him to a medical discharge anyway.

So right now we are just going with the flow of things and dealing with a lot of what ifs and possibilities.
