I am not disappointed with the results. I am, however, refraining from celebrating until all the votes are actually in. Looking at the various result trackers out there a number of the states that have been given to one candidate are really still up in the air. I noticed that some states are projected to go for Obama but have only about half of their precincts account for and that the votes are so close - 50% to 48%, for example.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think McCain has a chance now, still, I would like to see that everyone's vote is counted before they name the President Elect. It just seems that to say anyone has won before the votes are tallied is in a sense telling people that their votes don't count - unless they are in a state with a high number of electoral votes or a "battle ground". It's about ensuring that people feel their fundamental right to vote really does make a difference.
I'm listening to McCain's speech conceding the election now. I can't recall hearing him sound more eloquent and I am glad that he is calling for everyone who supported him to support Obama because we are "*all* Americans". I think coming together to help this country move forward is so important, especially considering that the popular vote is at this moment sitting at a 51%/48% split.
Considering the current results for the House and Senate and Obama's win, I look forward to seeing the positive movement America will take in laying the foundation for solving many of our long-standing issues. (Note: I didn't say "will solve" as I don't think any President can do that in one term). I do think that having a Democratic run House and Senate will help and make it so that things get done and aren't stonewalled as has been the case in the stagnant congress that we've had previously. I do have concerns, but I remain optimistic about the future.
